In collaboration with the travel agency “The Travel Tribe (MH.T.E: 0206E60000578001)” we have prepared another trip of a lifetime! Get ready to experience an unforgettable adventure in Egypt as we combine visits to Cairo’s iconic sites such as the pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, an idyllic cruise on the Nile from Luxor to Aswan, and much more.
Below you will find a detailed itinerary of the trip:
Duration of trip: 8 days-7 nights
21/03/2025: Athens – Cairo – El Halili Market – Train to Luxor
Meeting and departure from El. Venizelos airport for Cairo. After the necessary procedures we will transfer to the narrow streets of the bustling and famous bazaar of Khan El Khalili. There will be time for shopping and lots of bargaining!
Later, we will transfer to the Cairo train station to prepare for boarding our train. A special experience that will include dinner and an overnight stay in the train cabins until we arrive in Luxor.
22/03/2025: Arrival Luxor – Karnak Temple – Boarding the cruise ship
Arrive in Luxor and after breakfast on the train we will visit Luxor Temple, where the Egyptians also referred to it as the “the noon harem of Amun”. The Luxor Temple had begun to be excavated by Professor Gaston Maspero after 1884 and excavations continued sporadically until 1960.
We continue with the Temple of Karnak, which was the largest place of worship in antiquity. The temple with its 134 pillars, the sanctuary, and the divine lake, has 18 separate sacred spaces. Board the cruise ship, dinner on board, and overnight stay.
⚡ In the evening optionally you can see the unique show “Sound and Light” at the Temple of Karnak (Indicative price: 30 € per person)
23/03/2025: On board – Valley of the Kings – Hatshepsut Temple
Breakfast on board and tour of the west bank and the Valley of the Kings, one of the most important finds of Ancient Egypt. More than 60 tombs, including that of Tut Ank Amon, are located in this part of the desert. The Pharaohs chose this place because they believed that the sun rising behind the mountains would give them eternal life.
We continue to one of the most beautiful architectural masterpieces in the world, the epitaph of Hatshepsut, the first queen of Egypt. We conclude the first part of today’s first day with the colossuses of Memnon. Lunch and dinner on board, sail to Esna, and overnight.
⚡ We recommend an optional early morning hot air balloon experience admiring the largest open-air museum, Luxor, from above. (indicative price: 60 € per person).
24/03/2025: On board – Etfu – Comobo
Breakfast and sail along the green banks of the Nile, which throughout its history has been a ”transport artery” of goods and ideas. We continue towards the west bank and arrive at Etfu. There we are greeted by the most well-preserved temple in Egypt, dedicated to the hawk-like god Horus. The inscriptions on the walls provide important information about language, myths, and religion during the Greco-Roman period in ancient Egypt.
Notable are the scenes reflecting the eternal battle between Horus and Seth. Continuing our historical explorations on the Sacred River, we arrive at our first destination, Komombo, where we will tour the temple of the crocodile god Sobek and learn about the myths and legends of this temple. It is actually a complex of two temples dedicated to the gods Sobek and Harroeris. Dinner and entertainment on board. Overnight stay.
25/03/2025: Aswan – Abu Simbel (optional)
Breakfast and sailing to Aswan. At 04:00 am those who wish optionally depart for the tour of Abu Simbel one of the most famous archaeological sites in Egypt with two majestic temples carved into a sandstone rock. (The cost is indicatively from 60€ to 90€, depending on the participation). Our tour of Aswan includes the small and large Aswan Dam, as well as the granite mines with their unfinished obelisk. Lunch and in the afternoon we will visit Filai Island and the famous temple of Isis. Dinner and overnight.
⚡ In the evening optionally you can visit the colorful village of Nubia. (Indicative price 25 € – 35 € depending on participation)
26/03/2025: Aswan – Cairo – Citadel – Old Cairo – Egyptian Museum
After breakfast, we will take our internal flight to Cairo. Arrival and visit to the Egyptian Museum, one of the city’s top attractions. The museum houses thousands of exhibits of Egyptian culture that take you back in time. Then we will arrive in Old Cairo which is also associated with the Greek element. In the same area is the St. George’s Church, the place where the Saint was imprisoned and martyred, the crypt of the patriarchs of Alexandria, and the Greek cemetery of Cairo.
It was also the site of Babylon in Egypt, where the Holy Family fled to save the Divine Infant from Herod’s massacre. Lunch at a local restaurant and end up at the medieval Citadel fortress and Mohammed Ali Mosque. Transfer to hotel and overnight.
27/03/2025: Cairo – Memphis & Saqqara – Pyramids
After breakfast, we will visit the ancient capital of Egypt Memphis, where we will admire the famous alabaster sphinx and the colossus of Ramses II. We continue to the necropolis of Saqqara, 42km from the center of Cairo. The necropolis of Saqqara is famous for the first pyramid built in Egypt, known as the stepped pyramid, which was designed and built by the genius architect Imhotep for King Zoser.
Return to Cairo and stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to the Pyramids of Giza, the most famous pyramids and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the Sphinx, the largest monolithic statue in the world. Stop at Pyramids Panorama for coffee at Coffee Island (which is in the wider Pyramids area), so you can take your panoramic photos of all the pyramids from there. Return to the hotel and overnight.
