Types of Tanzania eVisa available

There are several visa types based on the purpose of your visit:

  • Ordinary Visa: Ideal for tourists and those on short-term visits.
  • Multiple-entry Visa: Suitable for travelers who frequently visit Tanzania.
  • Business Visa: For short-term business activities.
  • Transit Visa: For travelers passing through Tanzania for up to 7 days.

To avoid any issues during your stay, make sure to choose the visa that matches your travel needs. For more information and details, check the visa guidelines.

Eligibility for Tanzania eVisa

Before starting your application, check whether your nationality requires an eVisa. Some countries are exempt, while others need special clearance from immigration services. Most travelers can apply directly on the official Tanzania eVisa website. Alternatively, you can apply through a third-party service like iVisa.com (where you will see exactly the necessary travel documents you need), simplifying the process by handling everything for you. Remember that iVisa charges an additional fee for their services, but it can be a helpful option if you encounter difficulties with the official site.

Steps for eVisa application

1. Visit the official website

2. Enter personal information

You will need to provide:

  • Your email address
  • Passport number
  • Country of passport issuance

Choose a security question and complete the Captcha, then click Start New Application. You will receive an Application ID, be sure to save this, as you may need it to track or complete your application later.

3. Provide detailed personal information

Enter additional details such as your:

  • Date of birth
  • Country and city of residence
  • Nationality (at birth and current nationality)
  • At residence status enter “citizen”

Once all information is correct, click Save and Continue.

4. Fill in the address and employment details

Provide your physical and permanent address. If they are the same, complete the same. You will also need to input your employment status and the name of your employer (if applicable). Once completed, proceed by clicking Save and Continue.

5. Submit passport information

Select Ordinary Passport as the passport type and choose your country of issuance (e.g., Greece). After this, click Save and Continue.

6. Visa and travel information

Select the appropriate visa type, such as Ordinary (for tourism), and specify your purpose of visit (e.g., tourism). You will also need to fill in:

  • Travel plans: Indicate your port of entry and exit, the date of arrival, and the duration of your stay.
  • Accommodation details: Provide the name of your hotel or lodge, such as “Kilimakyaro Lodge”.
  • Nearby embassy to handle your application

Click Save and Continue to proceed.

7. Upload supporting documents

You will need to upload the following documents:

  • A passport-size photo (JPEG/PNG, max 300 KB)
  • A scan of your passport (JPEG/PNG, max 300 KB)
  • A copy of your flight ticket (PDF, max 1MB)

Ensure the files meet the required formats and sizes, then click Save and Continue.

8. Review and confirm

Review all the information entered in your application. At the bottom of the page, confirm that you have understood the terms and information provided by the Tanzanian government.

9. Payment

You’ll be shown the visa fee. If you face issues using Visa cards, use Mastercard instead. If the Pay Now option freezes (a common issue), copy the purchase code from the left side of the page, and use the alternate payment link provided above to continue in a different payment environment. This can resolve issues where the payment page freezes after bank approval.

10. Receive your eVisa

Once the visa is approved, you will receive it via email (ours were ready after 4 working days). Be sure to check your spam folder as well. You should have both a printed and digital copy of your eVisa, as well as proof of travel insurance if visiting Zanzibar. To save time at the airport, it’s best to arrange both in advance and have them printed out for easy access.
