Detailed excursion program:
Day 1: Saturday 01/03/2025: Athens – Colombo
- Saturday morning at 10:30 we will meet together at El. Venizelos airport, where we will board our flight to Sri Lanka via a stopover to Colombo, the capital of the country.
Day 2: Sunday 02/03/2025: Arrival – Sigiriya – Dambulla.
- Our journey begins with our arrival at the airport at 3:45 am, where our local English-speaking driver will be waiting for us to pick us up and transfer us to Sigiriya (approximately 3-hour drive).
- On the way, we will stop for breakfast.
- Once we arrive in Sigiriya, we will have the opportunity to climb the imposing Sigiriya Rock (approximately 40′ – 60′ climb), one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks.
- After enjoying the stunning views and exploring the monument, we will transfer to our accommodation in Dambulla for relaxation and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Monday 03/03/2025: Dambulla – Kandy
- On the third day after having breakfast at the hotel, we will set out for our visit to the impressive Dambulla Temple, with its caves, magnificent murals, and Buddha statues.
- We will then head to Kandy, where we will visit the Temple of the “Sacred Tooth of the Buddha,” one of Buddhism’s holiest shrines
- In the afternoon, at 17:00, we will attend a traditional dance performance that will offer us a unique insight into the local culture.
- At the end of the day, we will spend the night in Kandy, enjoying the authentic atmosphere of the city.
Day 4: Tuesday 04/03/2025: Nuwara Eliya – Ella
- On the fourth day, after breakfast at our hotel, we will set off by road to Nuwara Eliya, a picturesque town known as “Little England” because of its colonial architecture and cool climate. On the road to Nuwara Eliya, we will visit a jewelry shop where we will have the opportunity to see and buy gemstones, known for their high quality.
- Afterwards, we will visit a tea plantation and tea factory, where we will learn about the production process of the famous local tea and enjoy a tour among the lush green hills.
- In the afternoon, we will take a magical journey on the famous train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, crossing one of the world’s most spectacular railway routes with stunning views of the mountains and tea plantations.
- In Ella, we will end up spending the night, soaking up the wonderful atmosphere of the region.
Day 5: Wednesday 05/03/2025: Exploring Ella
- On the fifth day, after breakfast at our hotel, we will begin with a visit to the famous Nine Arches Bridge, one of Ella’s most iconic attractions, known for its impressive architecture and breathtaking views.
- We will then make a climb to Little Adam’s Peak, where we will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills and lush tea plantations.
- In the afternoon, we will have an (optional) exhilarating experience on the Ravana Zipline, enjoying the adrenaline rush and stunning views from above, or relax (optionally) in a Pool Club, enjoying moments of coolness and tranquility.
- Overnight in Ella.
Day 6: Thursday 06/03/2025: Safari in the National Park of Yala – Mirissa
- On the sixth day, after having breakfast at our hotel, we will start with a drive to Yala National Park, known for its unique biodiversity and wildlife observation. At the park, we will enjoy an afternoon safari where we will have the opportunity to see wildlife such as elephants, leopards and many species of birds in their natural habitat.
- After completing our exploration of the park, we will continue driving to Mirissa, a beautiful coastal town known for its beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere.
- In Mirissa, we will spend the night, enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of the area and the contact with the sea.
Day 7: Friday 07/03/2025: Relax in Mirissa
- On the seventh day, after having breakfast at our hotel, (optional) anyone who wishes will enjoy surfing lessons on the beaches of Mirissa, where the wonderful conditions, whether for beginners or advanced surfers, will give us the opportunity to learn or improve our surfing skills.
- For those who do not wish to surf, it goes without saying that they can relax on the beach, enjoying the sun and the sea.
- At the end of the day, we will return to our accommodation for an overnight stay.
Day 8: Saturday 08/03/2025: Galle – Colombo
- On our last day, we will start with a visit to the historic town of Galle, known for its iconic fortress, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There, we will explore the picturesque streets and colonial architecture that captures the charm of the past.
- Then, we will head to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, to discover its bustling atmosphere and main attractions such as the Saviar Temple, the National Museum, and the coastal areas.
- At the end of the day, we will stay overnight in Colombo for a few hours, as we should be at the airport at 1:30 am for our flight home.
